PhD Position in Earth-abundant Metal Photocatalysis and Organic Synthesis
Universidad de Murcia (UMU)
About this scholarship
This PhD position is within the research group of Dr. Francisco Julià-Hernández at the University of Murcia, focusing on developing sustainable organic synthetic methodologies using Earth-abundant metal photocatalysts. The group combines expertise in organic synthesis, organometallic catalysis, and photocatalysis, working in state-of-the-art laboratories in the Pleiades-Vitals UMU Excellence Research Building. The position aims to uncover the full potential of Earth-abundant metal photocatalysis beyond traditional photoreaction approaches, utilizing first-row transition metals as catalysts powered by renewable energy sources. The successful candidate will conduct research under direct supervision of Dr. Francisco Julià-Hernández within the multidisciplinary PhD program in Chemistry at UMU, with a flexible starting date between September-October 2026.
Eligibility
Candidates with MSc in Chemistry or close to completing one. Experience in organic synthesis, photocatalysis, radical chemistry, organometallic and/or homogeneous catalysis highly considered. Motivated candidates with creativity and teamwork skills.
